Since the foundation of Kids in Kenya, fund-raising efforts have been devoted to provision of urgently needed school materials such as pencils and papers, while such items as footballs and rubber thongs have been provided for reasons of health - the former to promote good exercise, the latter to protect children’s feet around unsanitary toilets that are no more than holes in the ground. Such items will continue to be needed but we would also like to think more ambitiously about larger projects for the future.
Kids in Kenya has benefitted from innovative use of surplus conference materials.
Ms Pauline Browne-Cooper, founder of the Kids in Kenya project gave a brief address to Canberra Rotary International on Monday 3 May.
Auburn Council is putting on a Celebration of African Cultures Event
Paule will have a stall at the Fair featuring African fabrics and jewellery as well as new and excellent quality used clothing and other top quality goods. All these items have been donated by family and friends and I am most grateful for the effort put into collecting and delivering all the stuff. All proceeds from my stall will go towards buying school materials for the kids of Kenya.
Come along and absorb yourself in the sights, sounds and aromas of many African cultures. Food stalls with an amazing variety of tasty treats ...

We are off again in July 2010
ANOTHER SHOP UP IN NAIROBI AND AN ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY TO THE SCHOOLS IS PLANNED
Paule and Sally are heading to Kenya in July this year. We have enough funds to buy a substantial quantity of school materials and we are hiring trucks, drivers and camp hands and personally delivering the goods to the schools. The teachers, children and the local villagers are very excited about our forthcoming trip and have requested much needed school supplies as well as soccer balls and rubber thongs. As the village has no power "our man in Nairobi" Marcus communicates with the teachers at the village and information/messages go back and forth. We couldn't manage without Marcus!
AT OUR CHRISTMAS FAIR on 29 November 2009 at Gladstone Park Bowling Club we raised $4,840. Those dollars from that day together with what is already in the kitty will buy a lot of school supplies for the kids in Kenya. The weather was kind to us and everyone enjoyed the day.
We are indebted to Allways Printing, Balmain for all the printing of our 2009 Christmas Cards (drawings by the children of Kenya and Australia) and the 2010 calendar which depicts marvelous photos of Nyadorea, schools and of course the children.
